So you know you want to prepare for birth in the most positive way possible right? You’re totally up for being in control of your birth experience and you’d like to do it as naturally as possible?

People have told you how amazing hypnobirthing is but you think that it’s just not very ‘you’? Yes, you want the Birth Preparation bit, yes, you’d love a positive birth experience where you make the right informed decisions for you, but it’s just the…(go on, say it…) It’s the whole ‘hypno’ bit isn’t it?!
So what would happen if we took the “hypno” bit away from ‘hypnobirthing’, let’s just see how it feels, okay? How about simply calling Mellow Mumma Workshops ‘Birth Preparation workshops’? Or better still, ‘Positive Birth Preparation workshops’
You see I totally get that it’s the “hypno” bit that can lead people up the hippy-dippy, tie-dyed, hairy armpit path; I understand how you could possibly think the whole thing sounds a teensy bit scary, or a little bit too alternative.
I can also grasp that because of stage hypnotists, the mere mention of the word ‘hypno’ or ‘hypnosis’ conjures up less than desirable images, especially when thinking about giving birth. Maybe you've only experienced stage performances where some bloke has hypnotised people into quacking like ducks whilst eating raw onions whole as if they were lovely juicy apples, or running around the stage stark bollock naked without a care in the world. And this is fair enough; this is sadly what lots of people think of when they hear the word “hypnosis”. But these often humiliating stage shows are purely for entertainment. The people that go up on stage are massively prepped; they will all have done loads of susceptibility tests, and I think you’ll actually find that they are the kind of people that would do the same things at 4am after a few (or ten!) pints on a Saturday night!
So obviously childbirth, or even preparation for birth, has nothing what so ever to do with entertainment, nothing what so ever to do with clucking like a bloody chicken! Hypnosis, in its truest form is a completely natural state to be in.
You’ve been in it, loads of times, daily even. Have you ever driven to work and wondered how you actually got there? You were in a hypnotic trance. Have you ever been to the gym and spent 20 minutes on an exercise machine? You were in a hypnotic trance? Have you ever danced in a night club/gig/festival ‘til 2/3/5am? (Okay, you may have also been slightly under the influence too), but still, you were still in a hypnotic trance.
Hypnosis is simply an altered state of consciousness: When your body and mind is totally relaxed, your subconscious is so receptive to lovely positive suggestions, (and its way to clever to let anything that you’re not 100% happy with, in).
I know, I know, you’re probably worried about control, (or lack of) too.
