Yes, it involves hypnosis and how to deeply relax and take yourself to another place so that you’re empowered and focused during labour and birth. And yes, it involves visualisations, positive affirmations and guided hypnotherapy techniques with juicy, powerful post hypnotic suggestions. But actually, a Mellow Mumma workshop is a totally frank, down to earth and totally scientific approach to birth, no matter what your preferences or past experience. So let’s cut to the chase and get to the real nitty-gritty of what you’ll cover on a Mellow Mumma workshop…
The power of relaxation & hypno-breathing
During the first session you'll focus very much on your mental preparation for birth. This is obviously super important, and an area often glossed over or even totally missed on some more traditional antenatal courses. You'll face your fears head on and realise they were probably never even yours to begin with; they have more than likely been passed down through generations dumped on you by society. You'll practice the massively crucial skills of effective breathing through lots of different, yet simple techniques. Your birth partner will begin to understand how vitally important he can be in all of this, by breathing with you, keeping you focused and even bringing you back to blissful calm if things get too full on, or you start to lose it for any reason. Not only will this make you feel super confident and supported, it’ll give him a valuable role in the whole process too.
So, you’ll learn how to...
Deal with the massively powerful sensations of labour and birth by using simple, effective and totally accessible techniques,
Use self-hypnosis skills to overcome fear and increase your confidence and trust in your own body and it’s incredible innate ability to give birth naturally and instinctively,
Breath effectively, in order to stay focused and work in harmony with your body,
Overcome fear and anxiety, and realise why they’re so damaging to a birthing woman,
Unravel the massive tangle of fear that's built up in society around childbirth and realise you don't need any of it,

The actual hypno-birth preparation
Session two is where it all gets seriously real! It's a really practical day to help you and your birth partner positively prepare: prepare physically, mentally and emotionally for the birth of your baby. You’ll learn what happens to your body just before and when you're actually in the throws of labour, and then when you birth your baby and hold them in your arms for the first time. Then you'll be utterly amazed by the complex emotional and phenomenal hormonal processes too. This stuff is the crux of it all, the Daddios will be in awe of you, and you’ll be left feeling so empowered and looking forward to working with your body through the amazing birth experience.
During session two you will learn:
Real, practical techniques to help you stay focused and relaxed during the birth including massage, using a birth ball and optimum birthing positions & practice contractions
How your body works best during labour and what you can do to work with it in your own (and your baby’s) time,
Practical tools and techniques for your partner to keep you focused, relaxed and to ease any discomfort during the birth,
To understand the vital importance of the wonderful cocktail of hormones involved in giving birth and why it’s so important to let your body flow through the process naturally, and undisturbed,
How your emotions are effected by the massive hormonal changes labour and the crucial signs to look for,
Effective ways to work with the medical team supporting you: This is especially beneficial for your birth partner; they’ll really learn how to look after you, feel in control, and able to make the right decisions for you and your baby.
